Practical Law is a Thomson Reuters product that provides lawyers with a one-stop solution for legal information in a variety of topics. These articles, templates, and notes are written and maintained by a regular staff of "attorney-editors" who ensure that the legal information is properly vetted and up-to-date. This flyer and infographic was developed to demonstrate the exact process by which these articles are made. I designed and illustrated this in-house assignment.
Below you can see the original concepts and the design process I used to get through the flyer. I originally intended to build the entire thing as a vector graphic in Illustrator, but to save time I mocked up the desks, chairs and bookcase as polygonal models in Blender. Eventually I chose to do the entire project in Blender for consistency's sake.
At first I wanted to keep the 3D models shaded in single colors to mimic the look of my original vector illustrations. As the project progressed, I switched to minimal cel shading to give better definition to the figures. I also experimented with a more photorealistic approach, which turned out to be the more appealing option. While the figures originally had a fuzzy, "felted" look, they were retextured as plastic figures that looked like they could be placed in a diorama.
